The Indian Association for the Study of Conservation of Cultural Property (IASC), established in 1966, is one of the oldest and most reputed scientific organizations in the country. Since its inception, the Association has played a significant role in advancing the field of conservation, particularly in the preservation, restoration, and scientific study of cultural heritage in India. For over five decades, IASC has been publishing its annual journal, “Conservation of Cultural Property in India,” which features peer-reviewed original research articles and reviews contributed by scholars and professionals from India and abroad. The journal has earned a respected place among national and international scientific periodicals dedicated to conservation studies. Each year, the Association organizes a National Conference in collaboration with leading institutions across the country, providing a platform for knowledge exchange, professional networking, and the presentation of new research in the field of conservation. In 2011, the Indian Association for the Study of Conservation of Cultural Property (IASC) instituted the Prof. B. B. Lal Young Conservator Award to motivate and encourage young professionals in the field of conservation. This annual award recognizes emerging conservators who have demonstrated excellence, innovation, and commitment to the preservation of India’s cultural heritage. So far, seven young professionals have been honoured with this prestigious award. In the 2025 General Assembly, IASC instituted the H. J. Plenderleith Memorial Lecture to inspire the next generation of conservators with the spirit of pioneering research, collaboration, and public service exemplified by Dr. H. J. Plenderleith. At present, the Association has over 250 life and annual members, including professional conservators working in government organizations, academic institutions, museums, as well as independent practitioners. Through its ongoing initiatives, IASC continues to uphold its mission of promoting excellence, research, and collaboration in the conservation of India’s rich cultural heritage. |
